It Was There

It was there....
you could see it.
Just behind his eyes
and in all the smiles
she gave him.

He knew...
she could change
his tomorrows forever.

But,
it was there...
you could feel it.
The way he pulled back.
Regrouped.
A safe distance.

So,
he never told her.

And...

It was there
you could hear it.
In the special way
he rewrote all her music,
(those silent lines)

She knew....
He could change
her tomorrows forever.

But,
it was there...
you could sense it...
the way her fears
came up to haunt her.
So, she never told him.

And eventually
they just faded away...

like a beautiful photograph
that no one ever took.
